The Security Challenge
When the 3G sunset was announced, a leading security integrator faced an urgent problem. Hundreds of customers relied on Videofied systems that depended on 3G connectivity — and those systems were about to lose service.
Replacement hardware was scarce, and even when available, the outdated panels lacked modern features like high-resolution video, intelligent detection, and mobile system control. The integrator needed to act fast to prevent service interruptions and potential account losses.
Their objectives were clear:
- Easy installation: A repeatable upgrade process suitable for hundreds of sites
- Reliable and scalable design: Compatible with various property types
- Seamless monitoring integration: Maintain video alarm verification for operators
- Enhanced customer experience: Offer mobile access and better video performance
The goal wasn’t just to swap out equipment. It was to deliver a real upgrade — one that enhanced alarm detection, improved video quality, and preserved the recurring monthly revenue (RMR) tied to each account.
Our Partner’s Approach
The integrator selected the CKB-312 Video Control Panel powered by CHeKT as the core of their new solution. Installation requirements varied from site to site, so the integrator developed a process that could work in multiple scenarios:
- Locations with reliable power and internet:
At these sites, the CHeKT Video Control Panel and video detection system were installed using the existing infrastructure, which minimized both downtime and associated costs. - Locations with power only:
For sites without internet service, a cellular router was added to provide connectivity. This allowed the CHeKT Video Control Panel to operate without requiring a costly internet installation for the customer.
Once connectivity was in place, the upgrade process followed a consistent pattern:
- Removed the existing 3G Videofied panel
- Installed one CKB-304 Control Panel (or CKB-312 for larger sites)
- Replaced motion sensors with Axis or Digital WatchDog cameras
- Configured analytics for intelligent video alarm detection
- Added Axis IP speakers where a remote audio “talk-down” intervention might be required
- Cradlepoint cellular modems were used for sites without internet
Most sites used one CHeKT Video Control Panel and four cameras, with larger facilities deploying additional cameras for full coverage.
The CHeKT Outcome
By deploying the CHeKT Video Control Panels, the integrator delivered a flexible, modern video verification solution across hundreds of locations — replacing outdated 3G systems with intelligent, connected technology.
This approach offered several key benefits:
- Smarter detection: By combining camera analytics with physical sensors, the system can better identify real threats and reduce false alarms.
- Direct-to-monitoring communication: When armed, cameras can simultaneously send video alarm events directly to central station operators and the CHeKT mobile app, keeping everyone informed in real-time.
- Mobile control: Customers can arm or disarm their systems through the mobile app — a major improvement over the limited interfaces of legacy systems.
- Scalable deployment: The Video Control Panels support an open platform, allowing them to work with a variety of video systems and enabling the integrator to standardize on one solution across multiple sites.
The transition was seamless. Customers experienced clearer video, faster response times, and convenient mobile access. Central station operators benefited from precise, video-supported alarm events. Meanwhile, the integrator retained recurring revenue and strengthened long-term client relationships.
Why Proactive Visual Security Matters
The 3G sunset posed a serious threat to thousands of legacy alarm systems — but it also created an opportunity to meet the challenge head-on, without compromising performance or profitability.
By upgrading to CKB-312 Video Control Panels, the integrator turned a potential service disruption into a strategic advantage — a fast, repeatable process for replacing hundreds of Videofied systems, that also gave customers a significant technological advancement.
No longer a mere upgrade, Proactive visual verification has evolved into a defining capability for security providers, strengthening response efficiency, deepening customer relationships, and driving lasting RMR growth across diverse environments.
